Speaking of free information.
Wikipedia is a brilliant project which is just the start of an all encompassing encylopedia written by the people for the people. A wiki is a website which can be edited by the users leading to a democratic approach to building and managing content.
The wiki method of building public knowledge has come under criticism, similar to the criticism levied by journalists at the blogging phenomenon, that the information is unqualified and therefore suspect. The criticsm is addressed here by the always relevant Joi Ito.
Anyhow, I challenge you to use Wikipedia and come to your own conclusion. Thus far on a variety of obscure topics (such as cryptography) this site has proven to be a goldmine of information. Better yet find a topic that you are an expert on an sign up for an account so that you can contribute!
