Champion
September 8th, 2005 | by ian |Andre Agassi defeated James Blake in the quarterfinals of the US Open tennis tournament a few moments ago. This in itself is not amazing unless you consider that Blake has been playing the tennis of his life and was up 2 sets 6-3 6-3 against the 35 year old Agassi. How Agassi got back in this match to win it in tiebreak was a testament to his mental and physical preparation, experience, wily playmaking against the much faster Blake, but most of all attitude and perseverence. Much, much respect.
The match didn’t have quite the same rhythm as the amazing 2002 Sampras-Agassi showdown (also a tiebreak) which made me appreciate tennis for the first time, but amazing to watch for the comeback factor as well as youth and strength versus experience and poise.
